Gwen Stacey becomes Spider Gwen in her universe instead of Peter Parker, but why was this? In Into the SpiderVerse we learn that Gwen lost her Peter Parker but weren’t given too many details as the first move primarily focused on Miles, however in Across the Spider Verse we see that despite Gwen doing her best to keep her powers hidden while also living her double life as Peter’s girlfriend, she didn’t realize that Peter was going through his own struggles which eventually lead him to taking a serum that turned Peter into The Lizard, causing gwen to have to fight him at their school dance where he dies from a falling light before revealing he only did this to be special, like her, however as Gwen held Peter in her arms mourning her boyfriend, Gwen’s own dad comes in seeing her and thinking that she’s drinking Peter’s blood, leading to Spider-Gwen becoming a fugitive with her father unaware he’s hunting his own daughter.
